Some time back some prankster created a fake “Gabe Newell” Twitter account claiming Valve was to start work on Left 4 Dead 3 shortly after L4D 2 was released. For those who don’t know, Gabe Newell is the CEO of Valve, the makers of L4D.
When Left 4 Dead 2 was released a year after the first, there was an uproar by some fans because a sequel was announced not even a year after the first L4D was released. So you can imagine how angry some fans were when this Twitter impostor tweeted Valve was working to release L4D3 on November, 17th 2010, one year after L4D2 hit shelves. Some fans believed this announcement, which seemed believable at the time when your emotions get the best of you, and L4D3 boycott groups quickly sprung up on the Steam Community and around the web.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Valve never said they were even making a 3rd, and there’s a good chance that they never will. They can’t simply release something that DOESN’T EXIST*.

create your own character? hello? who wants the same 8 people weve been playing with for THREE years? yea they rock, but you still have the game so theyre not goin anywhere right. When and if they ever decide to finally create left 4 dead 3, there should be 4 characters as usual. Maybe a couple different weapons, community maps, new specials, and a create your own character feature. Im sure that’s all it would take for valve to make a tremendous profit. Think about it.
It wouldn’t be the same 8, it would be a fresh new 4. Although it would be interesting to see a create-a-character mechanic, I think something like that should be reserved specifically for online use only. The only BIG problem I can foresee would be the way the custom survivors talk, Re-using the same lines for each custom would get repetitive fast, and there just isn’t enough room for 50+ different voice actors for every variation of each line. Personally, if it would have that many lines, I’d rather see it used for the 4 new survivors, expanding on the many multitudes of conversations they can have.
In the vary least, since there’s a trend for survivor creation, I can see there being personal skins/looks/fashions/outfits/etc. for each survivor, unlocked if certain goals are met. The easy to get ones would just be simple, like wearing you hat backwards instead. This could at least give players SOME form of the customization they crave. But this shouldn’t go overboard, this isn’t Sims after all.

that was just Game Informer pulling our leg, Valve never said anything to them about a 3rd installment. GI had said lots of outlandish things in that article, like that L4D3 would also be released on the same day as L4D4.

the reason that boycott sounds so retarded is because your misinterpreting what the article actually said. There’s been no actual announcement about L4D3, and there’s no one out there who thinks that a threquel right now is too soon, they DID however think L4D2 can out too soon, that’s what the boycott was about.

Here’s an idea for a new Boss infected that could be spawned instead of a Tank. He’s called Jaws (Yes, like the shark). As you could have guessed, he would be known for having remarkably large jaws, but a more defining feature would be how his body mostly covered in armor made out of teeth. The teeth covering his body wouldn’t be sharp ones, but instead be large flat/bumpy ones like molars. And some areas along his joints would have larger pointy/spike-like teeth sticking out, including a big fin-shaped one at the back of his neck. His lower jaw would be almost 2x as big as normal, along with an upper jaw that is about a 3rd bigger, giving him a “snout” like face.
This “armor” would act like a 2nd health bar. Shooting the teeth makes them shatter and fall off, allowing you to actually shoot into his flesh and do some real damage. But you would have to act fast, because even tho his real health doesn’t regenerate, his teeth armor would grow back, meaning you may need to shoot the same patches more than once before you take him out.
He would attack by charging, low to the ground, head first at a survivor, knocking aside others that his cross hair isn’t centered on, before slamming his target down. Once he has a survivor ‘pinned’ he would take a huge bite into either their arm or leg (depending on where he charged into them), the survivor would be helpless as he gnaws on them before he casts them aside and retreats to get ready for another run. Or he could simply use his powerful melee attack, using his large spike-like elbows and sharp, pointy finger tips to tear at the survivors.
There would be some long-term effects to his attacks, if he’s done more than 30dmg (depending on difficulty) to you legs, you would be slower and walk with a limp, and if he’s chewed your arm up too badly, your melee damage you greatly decrease along with your aim. But all these affects would go away when you use a medkit.
As a side note, my original idea of his attack would be that he “shoots” his teeth at you by spitting them out at you really fast like a machine gun, but that seemed a little too strange.

Um, I have never played L4D ever, in my life which really sucks. I don’t own and X-box and my computer doesn’t have the juice to run the game, but just watching people play the game and listening to my friends talk about is enough to make me wish for a 3rd.
Anyways I wanted to find out if a third was coming out because I’ve been seriously concidering saving for an x-box and L4D, if college doesn’t starve me out of my house first… Anyways I just wanted to lend my support in hopes that they make a third game.

I would say abou 2 years time, not 3. I also ready your reason. Your reason makes sense. 3 years is just way too long. If they were to release a trilogy, then from the 1st to the 3rd it would come out in a wopping 6 to 7 years later,

Well, I made various ideas for L4D3 but now I hear this? Er- Read. People are stupid, I mean boycotting L4D2 and 3? These people just need to shut up, and just ignore the game then. I am a MAJOR fan of L4D, and it gets me mad when I see this kind of stuff. =.= And here’s one of my best ideas if L4D3 comes out: They should make a map called Asylum, and School, it’ll be creepy and cooler, you know, ’cause a school, is friggin’ creepy enough.
Asylum, Death’s trash yard.
1) Entrance (This level will be gaining entrance to it. Starting a horde, the charcters must go thorugh and operate 3 boxes ontop of the electrical poles.)
2) Dirty Rooms (This one, they enter, only to find dead and alive zombies, there will be some vents like in L4D2′s Dark Charnivle, and some rooms containig witches.)
3) Messy pipes (In this one, our survivers must go through many pipes because of some blockage from a hallway not letting them go by)
4) Exit (This level leads on to the school. Basicly, turning on a truck which alerts the horde. I figured hopefully the will be some sort of vehical, that should give the player an opertunity to drive, or shoot from behind.)
School, They came to learn, only to die.
1) Hallways (In this level will be like a school hallway, but filled with zombies, and rooms filled with witches. I figured this level will be filled with witches like the level in L4D2, Sugar Mill.)
2) Detention (Basicly, this level will be a class room in the middle locked by an alarmed door, they open it, they will be going through 2 hordes. Like L4D’s Mercy Hospital.)
3) Cafetiriea (This one is going through a big cafetieria not the best level though)
4) Gym. (This one will be like a gym class. Going through many obsticals to escape through the back by an alarm door in the top, partly from L4D2′s Mall and the top will be like the end of Mercy Hospital.

I was thinking about a Prison themes campaign, and I think the name of it should be Dead Men Walking: Your life sentence is now a Death Sentence. I was thinking it would have its own unique weapon: a Shank, and its new uncommon infected would be prison inmates, they would occasionally drop shanks. The inmate infected wouldn’t be very special, but most of this campaign would be full of the Riot Officers from the Parrish.

My ideas aren’t that bad. That’s y I didn’t mention vehicles or customizable characters because I also didn’t like it I mean it sounds more like dead island to me so those are bad ideas. All my ideas were l4d based ideas not other games. I just tried some thinking on improvements.
